Etihad ES is one of the key drivers of Shams Dubai program. Etihad ES assists its customers by carrying out solar feasibility study, financing the project (should the client not have sufficient funds), install and maintain the solar PV system.
Shams Dubai is a leading initiative that supports the vision of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to make Dubai the smartest city in the world.
Sham’s Dubai encourages household and building owners to install PV panels on their roofs to generate electricity.
The Shams Dubai framework regulates the connection of solar energy to DEWA’s grid through a net metering structure. The solar electricity produced is used for on-site consumption, and the surplus is exported to DEWA’s network (net metering)
At every billing cycle any surplus solar production is offset against actual consumption. As a result, the consumer only pays the difference between total consumption and solar production.
If there is a net credit (solar production being higher than total consumption), it is carried over and used against future consumption.
